As part an aggressive national effort to grow youth journalism, news literacy and access to new-media tools, this year's five ASNE Reynolds Institute programs trained 162 high school teachers from 41 states and the District of Columbia. The programs focused on helping teachers develop an educational framework to teach students to make sound news judgments; improve the reporting, writing, editing, photo, Web, multimedia, graphics and business skills necessary to operate high-quality, independent student media; and to instill a greater understanding of, and appreciation for, the First Amendment.
